Under the patronage of the Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries, Mr. Salem Abdullah Al-Saqatri, and the Minister of State and Governor of Aden Governorate, Mr. Ahmed Hamed Lamlas, and in coordination with the General Authority for Fisheries and the Office of Higher Education and Vocational Training, the training course to improve livelihoods for youth and women in Aden Governorate has officially commenced. This 15-day course is part of the project “Rehabilitation of the Fishing Port and Development of the Value Chain in Aden,” which aims to build the capacities of 200 young men and women in various fields.
The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through the German Development Bank (KfW) and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), through the Ghadeq for Development (GHFD).
The project includes training for four associations from four districts in Aden: Rambou Association (Al-Tawahi), Gulf of Aden Association (Seera), Al-Arish Association (Khor Maksar), and Dolphin Association (Sheikh Othman).
The training course features diverse programs designed to meet the needs of youth and women, enhancing their opportunities in the job market and improving their livelihoods.
The training programs for youth include:
- * Proper Handling and Preservation of Fish Quality.
- * Fisheries Guidance and Occupational Safety.
- * Maintenance of Boat Engines.
- * Operation of GPS Devices.
- * Principles of Entrepreneurship for Small Projects.
-_ As for the programs tailored for women, they include: - * Preparation and Cooking of Seafood.
- * Processing of Fish-Based Food Products.
- * Crafting Decorations and Accessories from Seashells.
The launch of the training course was attended by Mr. Mohammed Al-Shakliya, Director General of the Office of Higher Education and Technical Training, Dr. Abdul Salam, Chairman of the General Authority for Fisheries, Engineer Nael Saeed Ahmed, Advisor to the General Authority for Fisheries, and Mr. Omar Al-Samaei, Executive Director of Ghadeq for Development. Attendees emphasized the importance of this initiative in empowering youth and women and enhancing their professional skills, contributing to sustainable development and improving economic conditions in the governorate.
This project is part of the efforts led by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and local initiatives to strengthen livelihoods in coastal areas and support local communities by providing training and practical opportunities that align with labor market needs. It also reflects a strong commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by empowering youth and women and supporting them to become active contributors to the development of their communities.
