Ghadaq Development Organization concluded the apprenticeship program within the livelihoods and food security support program in Yemen (Resilience 2) in partnership with the International Labor Organization (ILO) International Labour Organization and funded by the European Union and the Swedish Development Sida – Styrelsen för Internationellt Utvecklingssamarbete Agency, which aims to enhance the resilience of the most vulnerable groups by building the capabilities and skills of those targeted by training them, qualifying them and providing them with knowledge. And the professional skills for a trade/profession that enable them to join the labor market, in each of (Taiz Governorate, Al-Shamayatayn District, Hajjah Governorate, Abs and Bani Qais districts – Al-Hudaydah Governorate, Bajil, and Al-Marawah districts)
The program targeted (320) male and female apprentices to build their capabilities and qualify them in 7 professions (mobile maintenance – motorbike maintenance – installation and maintenance of the solar energy system – sewing and detailing – applying makeup and hairdressing – making sweets and pastries – making incense and perfumes). (160) Crafts (men &women) owners of workshops in the professions abovesaid, were trained in the skills necessary to coach the apprentices in their workshops and transfer their skills and experiences to the apprentices.
At the end of the program, (160) male and female apprentices, 50% of the targeted members, the outstanding students in every profession, were granted an integrated bag of (tools and equipment). The bags were given to them to enable them to enter the labor market and assist them in obtaining an income through work in the professions/trades in which they were trained. And to enhance their standard of living and help their families by starting their own business or working for others.
As well as providing male and female apprentices with the skills required for the profession, they have been trained in different programs such as (life skills – financial literacy – occupational safety – entrepreneurship). This training program aimed to equip them with the skills and capabilities that qualify them to enter the labor market.
